Preservation and Reimagination

Working with Studio Gang (Design Architect), the Civic Center Park project advances a unified vision for Denver’s most historic public space, focusing on three key areas: the Greek Theater, the Central Promenade, and the South Entrance. Building on the spirit of the 2009 Design Guidelines and the 2022 Master Plan, the project seeks to reimagine the park within a contemporary context while preserving its historic character. The goal is to transform Civic Center Park into a premier destination for families, neighbors, tourists, and commuters alike. Through these focused interventions, the project will unify the Civic Center experience under a common vision, balancing preservation with contemporary relevance to ensure the park continues to thrive as Denver’s civic heart for the next 100 years. Construction is underway and expected to complete in November 2027.

The Greek Theater will be renewed as a premier outdoor performance venue and a welcoming everyday destination. The project will preserve the historic integrity of the structure, upgrade technical infrastructure to support small- and medium-scale performances, and ensure full accessibility for performers and audiences. Enhancements will also encourage daily pedestrian use and establish a bold vision for the Greek’s future.

The Central Promenade will be restored as both a comfortable pedestrian space and an adaptable civic corridor. Improvements will reinforce human scale and comfort, provide opportunities for social features, and honor the historic cultural axis. Durable, welcoming materials and improved food truck and festival infrastructure will ensure the promenade supports both everyday activity and large-scale events.

The South Entrance and Gang of 19 Plaza will honor Denver’s leadership in the disability rights movement. By celebrating the advocates who advanced accessibility nationwide, the project establishes the South Entrance as a gateway between the park and the Cultural Complex while creating a fully accessible path into the Greek Theater, the seating bowl & stage, and on to the park's Central Promenade. Extending the park’s pathways and gardens, the Gang of 19 Plaza serves as both a tribute to the past and a commitment to a more inclusive future.
